I talk with Charlie Breit about his Branded entertainment project “The Lines”. He’s also putting together a meetup on Thursday September 29th to bring together local Chicago filmmakers.

“The Lines” is branded entertainment sort of “The Hills” meets driver education. Allstate Insurance is the brand and safe driving is the message. Charlie cleverly weaves young adult situations with driving mishaps. Each episode ends with nice message about safe driving. The production quality is great and he’s brought together some great local actors. The project is worth watching and a good sign that brands in the Midwest might be looking for opportunities to get their messages out in different ways.

On Thursday September 29th Charlie is hosting a Meetup at Market Bar Chicago in the West Loop at 6pm. Be there or be square. Midwest Media Now always supports these gatherings. It’s a great chance to meet people you might want to work with and find out what’s going on here in Chicago.

Hope to see you there!

This is a first, but I’m sure not a last. New Media talking about Old Media well at least on this show. Today we’re talking about a film “A Face In The Crowd” Director: Elia Kazan 1957

I’ve never seen a more poignant film than this that represents everything that is going on in New Media today.  The idea of a “little radio show” much like a podcast is today launching personalities, to radio and TV personalities having influence over the thoughts of the general public and even big brands wanting a piece of the action because they want to attach their names to a rising star in hopes of selling more product.

Warning, there are some spoilers to the movie as we talk about some key scenes but we didn’t give away the ending or anything like that. All I can say is I encourage everyone to watch this movie even after all this time this movie is more relevant now than ever before.

We’re giving away 3 copies of “A Face in the Crowd” to a random commenter or tweeter that retweets this episode. Please use the following line so we can find your entry easy or just leave a comment on the post. If you’re not already following Midwest Media Now on Twitter that’s okay but you’re missing out!

@midwestmedianow pick me! pick me! I want to see “A Face In The Crowd” #faceinthecrowd

This show was off the cuff with our Wednesday morning media group that at Starbucks in Schaumburg.  Drop by or Skype in if you ever want to be a part of nerdy discussions.  When I brought it up in the group I was surprised to hear at at least one other had seen the movie.

A few of us are having a party or a soiree so to speak!  If you are a new media content creator, small business, entrepreneurs, ad agency, local traditional media, local actors/talent, well the list could go on… That has heard some buzz words about social marketing you should attend this event.  We’ll have fun socializing and talking about all things nerdy.

There are all kinds of crazy ideas floating around out there about this stuff and we’re working on figuring it out like everyone else.

Here’s the gang making this happen but we want to add to this list for the next event!
James Gustin and Andrew Ettenhofer of Fig Media
Tim Jahn of Beyond The Pedway

What’s all the hubbub?
Chicago has a ton of creative energy and people creating great podcasts, video series, and more! We want to bring everyone together to network and have some fun! This isn’t about watching panels and taking notes; this is about doing!

So what exactly is happening?
Mingle with and learn from new media producers and other creative people! We’ll be showing various productions created by folks here in Chicago and creating brand new content on the spot as well!

Local New Media Showcase – A showcase of locally produced new media web series, podcasts, and more.
…and more!

Why should I care?
Because new media can be a great tool for small businesses, entrepenuers, agency folks, and creative people alike! And it’s fun to create! We want new media folks to meet new audiences and create new opportunities for themselves and others.

Who’s coming to this shin-dig?
small business owners

Welcome to our Welcome Episode

Welcome to Midwest Media Now! You can listen to our show directly from the web site or subscribe to the show in iTunes.

What is Midwest Media Now all about? It’s about content creators in the Midwest. What we are creating, who we are and how we do it. We’ll be talking about how you get started and the tools we use once we make that leap. We’ll be talking about anything from video cameras to the web hosts and everything in between.

Even though we are in the Midwest we will cover projects from around the world. Most of these shows have inspired and encouraged us to get our ideas out there and start our own projects. We hope a look inside the Midwest will encourage more content creators to do the same thing and maybe work together.

Do you have a show, tips or tricks or maybe you want to be a guest? Then click here! Let us know what you are doing and we’ll get you on the show.

This is an important time to be a content creator and getting the word out about your content and helping others make theirs. Together we help make the Midwest stand out as a place to get you next form of entertainment.
