Interview with Daily Planet

March 26, 2010 5:00 am 0 comments

In this episode, I’m chatting with the folks at Daily Planet, a Chicago based editing and motion graphics studio.

If you can’t see the video, please click here . The music featured during the intro and credits of this episode is a song called “Nobody” from local Chicago band The Right Now.

Here are some highlights from my chat with Daily Planet:

-Daily Planet is a motion graphics, editorial, and production company that works on TV commercials, TV shows, music videos, corporate videos and more.

-They created the “hit the ice” video for the Chicago Blackhawks games!

-When working in motion graphics, there’s always something new to learn and work on.

-Daily Planet strives to capture the personality of the people in the company in their work.

-Many of the employees have creative side interests that become a part of the work they do at Daily Planet.

-Students looking to get into the motion graphics and animation industry can get a step ahead of the competition by working on their own projects outside class.  This helps a student’s work stand out from the same school projects that all the other students are doing too.

Part of this epsiode was also broadcast live as part of Beyond The Pedway LIVE!  The entire unedited interview with Brad and Jon is below:

How Nate St. Pierre Has Made A Business Out Of Changing The World

I truly admire folks that seek to make a difference in this world. Especially those that have found a way to support themselves doing so. Nate St. Pierre is one of those people. A while back, while leading a web team at a big company in Milwaukee, he participated in a leadership workshop. One of the questions was “Next year, I will….” Nate wrote down “change the world.” His idea of changing the world 15 minutes at a time became [...]

How Celebrating The Little Victories Led To Brenden Mulligan Selling His Company To Sonicbids

Almost a year ago, I interviewed Brenden Mulligan to learn about ArtistData, the website he founded to help bands and musicians update all their various sites and profiles across the web. I was impressed, because it was just him and a small team creating this amazing tool being used by tens of thousands of musicians. Apparently I wasn’t the only one that was impressed. This past June, ArtistData was acquired by Sonicbids, a leading website for connecting bands and promoters. [...]

5 Lessons Creative Entrepreneurs Can Learn From A Filmmaker

Dave Miller is a producer, writer, and director who, in addition to writing, producing, and directing feature length movies, owns his own production company. He also writes and produces his critically acclaimed comedy web series Assisted Living, now in it’s 5th season on Koldcast.tv. I’ve been meaning to sit down and chat with Dave ever since I created Beyond The Pedway. When we finally got the chance, I popped into his office and chatted with him about his production company [...]
